Since 2012 Sergey Filatov develops and creates unusual musical instruments in the framework of the author's multi-disciplinary project "Secundo vita". This practice is one of the forms of interaction between the artist and the world of forms and technologies.

Each instrument has its own unique origin story. Most of them are created from the components of functional technological devices ( hyrosphere, microscopes, radiators, laptops, telescopes, etc.).

Equal attention is paid to the aesthetic and functional aspects, in accordance with the physical and acoustic laws and design principles.

Creating electroacoustic musical instruments the author seeks to reveal the acoustic properties of aluminum, nickel silver, quartz and other materials that make up the components of the devices. Creating electronic musical instruments Sergey Filatov mainly works with experimental technology 'Circuit bending' and electromagnetic emissions of various devices, building a unique sound palette.

Each instrument is regularly participates in solo and group performances on the contemporary art centers and festivals of experimental music in Russia and Europe.

A feature of the instrument is the ability to play it through the formation of an alternating magnetic field. Under the strings there are two flywheels with neodymium magnets, rotating around its own axis, they lead the strings to oscillations at different frequencies. The speed of each flywheel is controlled by a voltage regulator. Each pair of strings has its own electromagnetic pickup, which allows to distribute the sound into four independent channels.

The ship's waveguide serves as the tool body. The micro-tonal sound canvas is formed by the vibrations of two parallel strings. The motor mounted on the body acts on the strings by an alternating magnetic field, which creates a rotating flywheel with neodymium magnets.

The sound generators in this instrument are five wi-fi modems and routers. Each of them is attached to a coil with a steel core, reading electromagnetic emission devices. Each signal has a separate line output. This allows for real-time processing of the each outgoing audio signal. The up cover of the case is made of transparent plexiglas, which allows you to observe the indication of the processes occurring in the devices.

The instrument is a plate with a set of aluminum radiators, which was a processors coolers of various devices. Each plate of the radiator has its own height and timbre. The instrument begins to sound at the moment when the musician acts on one or more plates at once. The sound from the surface is picked up by contact microphone.

Spherophone is a set of interrelated hemispheres of brass, cupronickel and steel. The principle of the game on spherophene like playing on Tibetan bowls or playing the hang. The pitch and timbre of each of the hemispheres depends on the diameter and material. The hemispheres hand-forged by the author. located at the wooden base. A contact microphone with a line output is attached to the base of the instrument.

The body of the device is the frame for the microscope. Instead of an optical tube, a motor with a gear is installed. On the motor shaft is attached a flywheel with four plastic mustache. The principle of operation of the tool is that the flywheel is immersed by a submersible mechanism in a bowl with different objects. In real time, controlling the speed of the flywheel by the voltage regulator, the musician literally mixes a set of objects in the bowl, achieving a unique sound palette. A contact microphone is attached to the bottom of the bowl, allowing to make audible even subtle sound combinations.

Each module is a bundle of analog synthesizers, filters and media players. Some sound effect processors are upgraded by the author and perform the function of sound generators. The upper part of the shell of the ship hydrosphere serves as the case for the devices.

The device might result in the oscillation of any object made of steel. The flywheel with neodymium magnets forms a magnetic field within a certain radius, consistent with the speed of its rotation. Mostly used as a e-bow when playing stringed instruments.

In total, 5 versions of the Magnetor were created, which are currently in collection of musicians: Dmitry Shubin, Christine Kazaryan, Oleg Pogudin and Sergey Filatov.

The principle of operation of the device is the mechanical force applied
musician at the time of rotation of the wheel. By means of the gear transmission
two steel and quartz discs fixed to the shaft at the top of the tool come in a rotational motion. The two steel plates on the rod are in contact with different parts of the discs. During the performance, the musician consciously moves the plates to different parts of the discs, achieving the necessary sound. The sound is picked up by the piezo microphone located on the steel plates.

During the circular rotation, the strap with the neodymium magnet with one

In this device various electronic devices are used as sound modules. Each individual module has been prepared by experimental techniques is a circuit bending. Each found sound was switched on and processed in real time by means of switches and resistors located on the device body. The eight-channel mixing console, located on top of the device, receives and reduces signals.

A feature of this tool is the ability to create sound combinations through computer control. Real-time musician sends numerical data to the controller, thus determining the speed and direction rotation strap with attached two aluminium springs. Revolving in a specific sequence, two aluminium springs has a contacts with the 8 steel springs. The length of each steel spring determines is the tone pitch. Additional rhythmic sound is created by the electromagnetic emission of the stepper motor. The sound from the stepper motor is read by an electromagnetic microphone. The Central part of the shell of the ship's gyrosphere is used as a hull and resonator.

This instrument is a hybrid music station. In one case interact with multiple devices. Work on the instrument was carried out for several months. The main criteria for the versatility of the tool were the consistency of devices, functionality and design. The sound from three strings is picked up by a guitar magnetic pickup. The built-in effects processor in the case allows to in real time to process the incoming audio signal. Condenser microphone fixed to the body allows to include sound of acoustic instruments and objects in the sound palette. Also on Board the device are a radio receiver that receives a signal in several bands. A built-in tone block allows to adjust the frequency range and panorama.
